Djilobodji was not my choice - Mourinho

The Chelsea boss has revealed that he did not personally pick the Senegal centre-back but insists he was recommended as a "fantastic squad player" by "someone I trust completely"

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted he was not responsible for the signing of Papy Djilobodji but insists the defender was the choice of "someone I trust completely".

The Senegal centre-back was bought on deadline day for a reported fee of £4 million after the Blues had failed to prise Everton starlet John Stones to Stamford Bridge in a significantly more expensive deal.

Chelsea lose again as Naismith bags treble

The Blues were poor as they struggled to find answers to the Scot's treble, with John Stones leading a fine defensive display despite Nemanja Matic's superb consolation goal

Chelsea's start to the defence of their Premier League title went from bad to worse as they were beaten 3-1 at Goodison Park by a Steven Naismith's hat-trick for Everton.

The Scottish forward broke the deadlock with a header in the 17th minute and followed it up with a second just five minutes later, taking advantage of slack defending from Branislav Ivanovic to bury a low shot past Asmir Begovic.

Mourinho: Pedro isn't at Chelsea for a holiday

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hailed his side's capture of Pedro, labelling him one of the world's best forwards, and says he is encouraged by the Spain international's desire to test himself away from the comforts of Barcelona.

The Blues hijacked Manchester United's move for the Spain international, wrapping up a €30 million deal on Thursday as Mourinho ramps up his recruitment drive in the wake of a disappointing start to their Premier League title defence.

Chelsea have also added full-back Baba Rahman from Augsburg but it is Pedro's capture that has especially delighted the Portuguese coach, with Mourinho believing that his new recruit can now step out of the shadows of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez to prove his class.
